What do you do after you meet a new lead, a prospect at a networking event or exhibiting at a trade show? For this example let's say you’ve met Sue at a networking event and had a great first connection! You're sure she is a great fit for your business, a hot lead who really wants your products and our services. What are you going to do within the first 48 hours to start moving the relationship forward? The first thing you want to do is start researching and qualifying Sue within the first 24 hours of meeting her. When you met her you found out a little bit abour her, but you know there's more that you need to know. You need to get online and start researching her, look at her LinkedIn, and social media. Here are some questions that you should be asking yourself and things that you should be looking for when you're doing the research about her.
- What does she do?
- What are her interests?
- What’s her personality like?
- What did she achieve?
- What do you two have in common?
- Does she have a need for your product/service?
- Is she already buying it from a competitor?
You are just making note of what you find out and putting it in your CRM. When it's time to really talk to her about buying from you, you've already used this info. to set the stage to show her you can solve her problems. When you meet with her next time interweave the information that you've uncovered into the conversation. If she does buy your products or service, then she's obviously buying it from one of your competitors and you want to change that. Ask yourself what makes you different, what makes it so you're a better fit for her and how you can help her?Think through those things. Look at her social media profile. What people or groups do you have in common? What is she sharing that interests you? What interests do you two have in common? What expertise do you or your business have that can help you connect with Sue and her interests?Search Quora.com, that's a great place you can search by people. Search it to see if there’s anything that she's posted on there that you can help her with, that you can add value to and/or you can ask her questions about? And lastly, look at Glassdoor.com, that's a great place to get an inside view of what's going on inside the company, what people are saying about them. Now, when you meet with Sue again you can have an intelligent conversation about the things you've uncovered. You took the first step and that's researching her.Now send her a LinkedIn request and make sure that you remind her who you are, where you met her, and why you want to connect. Then, within 48 hours of meeting her, contact her. Give her something of value and ask her to have coffee with you. Face to face time is going to build the relationship faster than email, text, and Zoom. Before meeting her for coffee, go through all those notes that you have in your CRM from the research you did on her and pull out the ones, the things that you want to talk to her about. You have a gold mine about Sue that you created, that you're going to keep going back to and adding on to as you're building this relationship. If this helps you. Please share this out with your friends and coworkers. My goal is to help more people to build relationships with their marketing. To really show that they care.
