What do you do when you go to a networking event? What are you doing to build relationships with your prospects to really stand out amongst the crowd and make yourself different than everybody else in the room? We're going to look at this piece of our Magnetic Marketing Roadmap.Within the first few seconds of seeing you, people are already judging you. Are you somebody that they want to meet? Are you not? When people are walking by you, are you giving them eye contact, are you smiling at them? 93% of communication is non-verbal. Think about these things when you're at an event. Then let's think about how people process information. 90% of the information the brain processes is visual and it's definitely much easier for us to do.Let's say you met a lady named Sue at this networking event and she's a hot prospect. What can you do in order to make it easier for Sue to remember who you are? She's talking to you and you've told her your name and your company name. She likes you, but she is terrible at remembering names. You've helped her though. How? By wearing a branded shirt.Every time she looks at your face and then looks down at your shirt she's remembering your face and your company name. It's visually giving her brain repetition to make it easy to remember after the event is over. That's why it is key to wear a branded shirt.Hand Sue a business card that's useful, one that's fun, one that's memorable, one that adds a little WOW factor!  Adding excitement to the experience of meeting you helps elevate you above the noise of everybody else that is trying to get her attention. A memorable business card sets you apart! Here are some examples of the ones that I've done before for my business.

  • A lip balm business card!
  • Microfiber cloth..just look at that large imprint area and it's a useful item.
  • Tangle free headphone winder.
  • A fcredit card shaped bottle opener.

There are many useful and fun items that we can create into a business card for you to make you memorable, to get the reaction you want so people remember you.Next, let's think about what you're going to talk about with Sue. The last thing you want to do is have nothing to talk about and to feel awkward because that's going to immediately end the conversation. How will you prevent that? Plan in advance what you can talk about. What open-ended, positive questions can you ask her? Here are some questions I put together for you. Use the ones you like or think of you're own.

  • How long have you worked at _______?
  • What made you decide to go in that field or in that industry?
  • What are you working on right now?
  • What's your biggest challenges?
  • What do you love or enjoy about what you do?
  • How did you hear about this event?
  • What do you like to do? What's the one thing that gets you to jump out of bed in the morning?
