I wanted to share this with you because in order for you to get better results, you should be putting yourself in your target audience's shoes. I was talking to my coach about the importance of creating experiences, engaging your target audience, sprinkling in some surprise and delight and standing out from the crowd when you are marketing and building relationships. That people now have the attention span of a goldfish! Watch the video to go deeper. Read below if you want a quick summary of what’s in the video.

My 12-year-old was listening to me and was really intrigued by the conversation. After I was done, he said, “Mom, what you said was really true. I have ADHD and it's funny that I can watch and play on my video games for a long time and it keeps my attention. I love science and I can sit in that class all day and stay focused. BUT history…I hate it!” He said with a disgusted look. “I can't stay focused in that class. It's hard for me!” I asked, “What if she created an experience in that class? How could she hold your attention?” He looked a little puzzled and said, “I don't think she could do anything that would hold my attention”. I thought for a second and said, “Could she hold your attention the entire school day if when you walked in the door she had it set up like a party? Imagine everybody is wearing togas and they have grapevines around their heads like crowns. She then hands you a toga and grapevine to put on. She then had people serve you food that you like. Food that was served during that time period. As you guys were experiencing this she's talking to you about what was going on in life during that time. She’s teaching you about History and you guys started becoming the characters. You and your classmates are acting out the scenes, experiencing the moments, becoming the people that you are learning about.Imagine it being a history lesson, but you are so immersed in it that you've forgotten that you're in your history class. Do you think you could pay attention?” He smiled and with excitement said, “That would be amazing!” I replied, “Well, that's exactly what I was talking to my coach about!” Talking about how important it is to create experiences with your marketing, to keep people engaged so that they're not floating off into space, they don’t feel like their lives are being interrupted, they don’t feel like my son in his history class. They aren’t thinking, when is this going to end, I don't want to be here, etc. Instead, businesses are focused on making it a fun experience, getting their target audience to look forward to it, and in doing so they are building deeper relationships and loyalty. I hope you remember this and put yourself in your target audience's shoes. Think about this when you're putting your events together, creating marketing campaigns, interacting with your target audience. When you're creating your customer’s journey. Ask yourself, where can we surprise and delight them? Where can we add some “Aha!” moments? Where can you do things that are different than our competitors? Things that are going to make us stand out, make us be the one that they want to work with? Because no one else is treating them as well or making them smile as much as you are. These are the things that I hope you remember and think about! If you need help with your marketing, with your customer experience, creating these “Aha!” moments, let me know I would definitely love to help you.
